A recent 911 call

Well I'll start with the funny part, the punchline so-to-speak. I almost gave a seizing man some wine. lol.

OK, now the story.  Timmy and I and the baby and three year old were driving in the car. We were in a bit of traffic, stuck at a red light. On the side of the road there was a man laying on the sidewalk having what looked like a seizure. We, of course, called 911. I said there was a man lying on the sidewalk and the operator said, "Andover street?" in a bored voice like she had gotten a dozen calls already. I'm sure she did. I'm sure every car stuck in that traffic had called. But, to my dismay, not a single person got out of their car.  I told Timmy I was going to go, but he insisted that he go. So he does and quickly comes back and tells me that he's diabetic. I start looking around frantically for some sugar or juice and was happy to discover a cup of grape juice in the cup-holder.  I run over to the man and I'm smelling it and I'm like, oh shoot, this is wine. My mind is racing: should I give this to him or not?! I'm just about to give him a sip but Timmy says, "no! Are you crazy?" and he takes the cup from me. Meanwhile, with us standing there two other people finally get up the nerve to come out of their car.  I ask them frantically if they have any juice or sugar because he's diabetic (and presumably going into diabetic shock). Nobody did so I felt really helpless. I'm just squatting next to him, rubbing his stomach and telling him it's going to be OK and that we called the ambulance. He's confused and telling me that he's dying. (I tell him he's not). He's still twitching all over. A police officer pulls over and the cop walks up. He's so nonchalant. He leans over and asks the guy in somewhat sympathetic voice if the guy had been drinking today. The man says yes. and the cop says something like "yeah, that's a bitch. Gotta be careful with that." I wasn't surprised because he kind of looked like the stereotypical "bum". In retrospect, the wine probably would have been a good call. ha ha. The man asks us to call the police and I say that one is right here.  I'm getting really impatient now and looking down the streets for an ambulance. We are like one block from a hospital! What the heck?! Meanwhile the cop is just standing there all calm and unconcerned and I'm both annoyed and turned on by that. On the one hand this guy is practically having a seizure in front of us! And on the other hand, he's all calm and collected like he's done this a million times before. There's a group of us. I'm the only one next to him trying to comfort him but there is absolutely nothing we can do. Timmy is like, "let's go" and I say no but then Timmy reminds me that the baby is (probably) crying in the car and, remembering that, I jump up and run to the car. We drive away and I'm sure the guy is OK. Meanwhile, Timmy is berating me, "I can't believe you almost gave that guy wine!!  How would we explain that to the cop- where an open cup of wine came from?"  We had a good laugh over that one.

just glad the cop didn't come over and comment on what a lovely baby you had and find the open cup of fermented grape juice! and I am proud of you for taking the time to stop.
